Located in Gedeb worda in the Yirgacheffe zone, Butucha was started in the 1970’s and is named after the grandfather of the current owner, Alemayehu Tilahun. The washing station takes great care to ensure attention to detail in each step because they know how significantly  it can affect the end result.  About 1500 small-scale farmers bring their ripe cherries to the washing station where they are depulped within 8 hours before being fermented, washed again with water from the Moto River, and shade dried until they hit the desired moisture content. This is a fun coffee - surprisingly sweet and juicy and we are tasting things like gummy peach rings, lemon, and honeysuckle.
