Kirema // Burundi
Burundi coffees tend to be some of the most complex and versatile coffees that we have cupped, roasted and used in our cafe. The challenge of bringing more coffees from Burundi range from its logistical challenges, inconsistent weather and harvest, and the geopolitical quandaries of its immediate region.
Gaslight has brought this coffee in due to its sparkling acidity and the flavors in the cup which are reflective of its terroir. More than 3,800 smallholder farmers contribute to the Kirema washing station with varieties of Bourbon, Jackson and Mibrizi. In this coffee we are tasting flavor notes of grapefruit, toffee, and taro.
